VIC CMAs GET IT DONE: 2024 ACTIONS AND ACHIEVEMENTS REPORT RELEASED

Each year, Victoria's ten Catchment Management Authorities showcase their statewide achievements via an Actions and Achievements report.      

For over 27 years, Victoria’s CMAs (and Melbourne Water) have been caring for catchments delivered land, water and biodiversity programs that not only enhance and protect our environment but support thriving communities as acknowledged by winning the National Banksia Sustainability Award in the Nature Positive category.

Victoria’s CMAs and Melbourne Water work closely with local communities and Traditional Owners to create meaningful and lasting integrated catchment management outcomes.

2024 was a productive and forward thinking year where CMAs and Melbourne Water delivered projects in the final year funded under Tranche 5 of the Victorian Government’s Environmental Contribution and demonstrated resilience in dealing with floods and rolled out Regional Catchment Strategies.

The Victorian CMAs’ Action and Achievements Report 2024 highlights the great outcomes achieved for the State’s natural environments, agricultural landscapes and communities, including:

  • CMAs worked with 925 partners – they are the heart of what we do
  • Completed 38,447 ha of weed control reducing competition for our native species and allowing nature to thrive
  • Installed 395 kilometres of fencing to protect rivers and wetlands
  • Provided 12,445 approvals and advice for works on waterways
  • Re-established close to 3,000 ha of vegetation creating habitat for our native species
  • Improved management of 4,700 ha of land enabling positive agricultural change
  • Installed over 100 new visitor facilities encouraging people to engage in the environment
  • Supported biosecurity across the state with over 720,000 ha of pest animal control
  • Engaged over 50,000 event participants to raise awareness and knowledge
