Landowners and manager play a essential role in the management of our rivers, estuaries, birds, marsupials, trees, shrubbery, and the natural environment. We seek to empower these landholders with the resources, knowledge, and networks to provide better environmental outcomes for generations to come.
Collaborating with the local Landcare group, the Corangamite CMA supported the farmer to improve water-quality and efficiency by installing a water filtration process using strategically placed native vegetation, sand, and rocks. The project also increased vegetation around the dam and upgraded troughs and underground piping to reduce wastage. Additionally, Boundary Creek the high-value waterway which runs along the property was revegetated and fenced off to protect it from stock and nutrient runoff. This project is just one example of many where the community and property owners are front and centre of the environmental improvement process.
A key focus of the Corangamite CMA is to work with landholders and the community to implement sustainable agricultural practices. Agriculture is the life blood of economic activity in the Corangamite region with approximatively 3,500 diverse businesses currently operating over three quarters of a million hectares.
