THE CORANGAMITE REGIONAL WATERWAY STRATEGY IS BEING RENEWED

July 15, 2025

The Corangamite Regional Waterway Strategy is being renewed.

The new strategy will guide investment in waterway management for the next 10 years across the Corangamite CMA region, which stretches from Ballarat in the north to Geelong and the Bellarine Peninsula in the east to Camperdown in the west. It will help drive the work of agencies and community groups and generate a shared understanding of our priorities for each waterway system.

Across August and September 2025, Corangamite CMA hosted 11 structured workshops across the catchment with key delivery partners and those involved in natural resource management and environmental stewardship in the region who shared their insights and helped set shared strategic outcomes. We had a wonderful response from our agency and community partners, with 165 attendees across the series of workshops, and further feedback provided either directly or via a survey to interested people unable to attend the in-person workshops.

The insights, feedback and suggestions from participants have been critical to help us:

  • Establish a strong baseline of the ‘current condition’ of our waterways, wetlands and estuaries across the region
  • Identify priority issues and opportunities within each waterway system
  • Help establish the outcomes we need to work towards across the whole Corangamite region

Corangamite CMA is now collating all the information gathered and translating it into an overall draft strategy, which all of our partners and community will have the opportunity to comment on early in the new year.
