CORANGAMITE CMA HIGHLIGHTS KEY WATERWAY RECOVERY ROLES

March 19, 2026

Corangamite Catchment Management Authority (CMA) has outlined how it supports local waterways and our partner agencies during and following natural disasters such as floods, bushfires and storms with the release of the Corangamite CMA Roles in Natural Disaster Recovery for Waterways Fact Sheet.

While emergency response is led by agencies like VICSES and DEECA, Corangamite CMA provides vital flood intelligence and expert advice to our partner agencies during major flood events. In recovery, Corangamite CMA helps stabilise riverbanks, assess environmental impacts, protect threatened species and coordinate restoration works.

Landholders can undertake repair works within waterways but must obtain a free Works on Waterways permit to ensure activities don’t cause further harm. Support for fencing repairs, erosion works and revegetation may be available depending on funding and priorities.
