COMMUNITY INVITED TO HELP SHAPE THE FUTURE OF WATERWAYS ACROSS THE CORANGAMITE REGION

Corangamite Catchment Management Authority (CMA) is inviting people from all walks of life across our region to help shape the future of our rivers, wetlands, estuaries and creeks by providing feedback on the draft 2026-2036 Corangamite Regional Waterway Strategy.

Developed over the past 18 months through research, environmental analysis and workshops with key partners, the draft strategy outlines priorities and actions to guide waterway management across the Corangamite region over the next decade.

Corangamite CMA CEO, Dr. Amber Clarke said the next stage of the process is about ensuring the strategy reflects the values, aspirations and priorities of the people who live, work and visit the waterways of our region.

"Our region depends on healthy waterways. They support plants and animals unique to our region, provide cultural connections, underpin agriculture and industry, and create places where people can enjoy nature and spend time together.

"We've worked with Traditional Owners, agency partners and community group representatives to develop this draft strategy. The opportunity now is for all community members to input and have their say. We want to hear what matters most to people and whether we've identified the right priorities for the next ten years."

The draft strategy builds on the successes and lessons learned from the previous Regional Waterway Strategy and provides a shared vision for protecting and improving waterway health across the region.

"This strategy will guide waterway management efforts over the next ten years. Community feedback is an important part of making sure it reflects what local people value and what they want to see for the future of our waterways," Dr. Clarke said.

The strategy outlines practical actions while recognising the need to adapt to changing environmental conditions and future challenges. It also highlights opportunities for collaboration and investment to achieve lasting benefits for waterways, communities, culture and the environment.

Community members can review the draft strategy and implementation plan and provide feedback through a survey or written submission on the Engage Victoria website.
