Congratulations to Freshwater Creek Steiner School Inc. on completing their 2022 Victorian Landcare Project, 'Revegetation of Farming Land with Indigenous Plantings & Rabbit Exclusion Fence'.
With over 1828 volunteer hours, the school and Freshwater Creek community came together to deliver an extremely valuable environmental, educational and community project!
The project created a new wildlife corridor and Nature & Cultural Discovery Trail for the school by revegetating 3.27 hectares of indigenous habitat, with protection from rabbit damage.
This on-ground work provided many educational, cultural, environmental and outdoor outcomes for students whilst also facilitating the broader community's engagement, connection and education on cultural heritage, natural habitat, biodiversity and climate change mitigation.
Sarah Oliff from Freshwater Creek Steiner School Inc. said that this Landcare project was a little project for our environment, but for the school and our community, it has been a major and incredible project to plan and deliver.
"It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for many of the participants to be able to contribute to revegetation, plant a tree or several and see the benefits in the future. It benefits the whole community," she continued.
"This project would not have been possible without the joint efforts of all involved with support, time and funding. From little things, big things grow", Mrs Ollif said.
