The activity will begin at the Marine and Freshwater Discovery Centre. From here you will be required to drive a short distance (1.6km) to the Queenscliff Lonsdale Yacht Club, where the canoes will be launched.
What: Learn the basics of canoeing while discovering some of the wonders of Swan Bay, part of the internationally significant Port Phillip Bay (Western Shoreline) and Bellarine Peninsula Ramsar site. Participants will have the opportunity to check out the incredible Marine and Freshwater Discovery Centre before heading out in canoes to see seagrass habitats, wader and water birds, fish, marine life and many other inhabitants of Swan Bay. You will access and see one of the regions most important fish nurseries and internationally significant wader bird habitat.
This event will begin with a 30min guided tour of the Marine and Freshwater Discovery Centre. The event will then move to the Queenscliff Yacht Club where the canoes will be launched for the on-water portion of the event.
Additional Information:
AGE LIMIT of 12 years old.
No canoeing experience required.
Please be aware that you will get wet during this event. We suggest wearing shorts/bathers/wetsuit and/or have a change of clothes for afterwards. Please wear appropriate footwear, preferably closed-toed that can get wet.
Bring a hat, drinking water, snacks and sunscreen.
NOTE: If the weather becomes unfavourable or if Extreme or Catastrophic Fire Danger Ratings are declared, the event will be postponed and the participants will be notified as soon as possible.
