Wetland Bird ID Walk – Avalon Saltworks

Meeting Point: Avalon Coastal Reserve – please meet at the end of Avalon Foreshore Road, Avalon in the turnaround.

What: Join Birdlife Australia and Corangamite CMA for a walk through the international significant Avalon Saltworks, a part of the Port Phillip Bay (Western Shoreline) and Bellarine Peninsula Ramsar site, to see the incredible bird life that use and rely on the area. These incredible coastal and wetland habitats support migratory and resident shorebirds like the Red-necked Stint, Red-capped Plover and the Curlew Sandpiper plus waterbirds like the Royal Spoonbill and the Little Tern.
Learn to identify a variety of waterbirds, migratory shorebirds and how you can protect them in your local area.

Catering: Lunch will be provided at the end of the walk.

Additional Information: Please be aware that this activity will be physical and will require walking on some uneven ground and sand. The walk will take approximately 2 to 3 hrs.
We recommend you wear sturdy closed toed shoes suitable for hiking or exercise.Bring with you; binoculars, bird ID books/guides, hat, drinking water, snacks and sunscreen.

NOTE: If the weather becomes unfavourable or if Extreme or Catastrophic Fire Danger Ratings are declared, the event will be postponed and the participants will be notified as soon as possible.
