CCMA Board strengthen their cultural understanding

May 31, 2018

As part of this years Reconciliation Week, the Corangamite CMA Board held a Cultural Strengthening Workshop. In keeping with this years theme, Don't keep history a mystery; learn, share, grow, the Board explored the parallel history of Aboriginal Australians, and principles and actions for supporting Aboriginal Participation in Natural Resource Management.

The session was lead by Tania Dalton and Libby Lesock, who bought a very personal perspective (both Indigenous and non-Indigenous) of working with Aboriginal communities. The session began with a Welcome to Country by Ebony Hickey from the Gulidjan people, and John Clarke from Eastern Maar generously shared his story, his families history, and his communities deep personal connection to Country.
The workshop is part of the Corangamite CMA's commitment to reconciliation. Country is central to the identity and culture of Aboriginal Australians. Healthy land and health waterways are therefore critical to Aboriginal cultural interests.
The Corangamite CMA is in the process of finalising an Aboriginal Cultural Strengthening Action and Inclusion Strategic Plan- to demonstrate and guide our commitment to developing policies, roles and responsibilities to increase Aboriginal community participation and involvement in land, water and natural resource management.
