Nominees from Landcare groups across the Corangamite region were recognised at the 2019 Victorian Landcare Awards at Government House.
The awards are held every two years to acknowledge the success and achievements of community landcarers, groups, networks and originations who have been working to protect and restore our environment and improve agricultural productivity.
There was close competition for awards and the Corangamite region had some exceptional nominees, with three taking home awards in different categories.
The Cundare Duverney Landcare Group won the Innovation in Agriculture and Land Management Award for their trial of stubble incorporation in 2017. Since then an additional 14 landowners have adopted the practice, with several others implementing it at paddock level.
Dr. Kaye Rodden received a Highly Commended in the Australian Government Individual Landcarer Award for demonstrating, in all aspects of her life, a total commitment to local community Landcare and at Regional, State, National and International levels.
Dick Simonsen and Bob Beveridge received a Commended in the Australian Government Landcare Farming Award for their development of a rabbit warren smoking kit. The rabbit warren smoking kit allows for easy and cost-effective identification of all exits to a warren, which is an important step prior to fumigation.
