FREE BALLARAT SCREENING OF ACCLAIMED FILM JUST A FARMER SUPPORTS RURAL MENTAL HEALTH

November 15, 2024

Friday 22 November, 6:30pm, Fed Uni Mount Helen Campus

Victorian film Just a Farmer has been racking up prestigious awards at film festivals around the world, and Ballarat locals are being offered complimentary tickets to attend a special screening on Friday 22 November in Mt Helen.

Featuring a guest appearance and Q&A with Leila McDougal - the writer, producer, and star of the film – the screening aims to support mental well-being in the community and to help spark important conversations. It is being hosted by Corangamite Catchment Management Authority (CMA) in partnership with the Victorian Landcare Program, the Victorian State Government, Leigh Catchment Group, Bendigo Bank Community Bank Buninyong, Mt Mercer Wind Farm, and West Wind Energy.

Regional Landcare Coordinator Kylie McLaren said, “Land Managers and passionate people working within the Natural Resource Management sector face unique and challenging situations every day. Just a Farmer reminds us that we are not alone in facing these challenges and the importance of breaking the silence around mental health. We are so much stronger working together as a community, sharing our struggles and success.”

Just A Farmer is a compelling drama that authentically portrays the impact of suicide on a rural Australian family, shedding light on critical mental health issues in farming communities. The film celebrates the resilience of farmers’ wives and community support amidst heartbreak, set against the captivating backdrop of rural Victoria.

Just A Farmer merges seasoned Australian talents with emerging voices, presenting an unparalleled cinematic representation of authentic rural farming life. It’s a unique blend of captivating storytelling that resonates universally.

“This is a great opportunity to bring people together, foster empathy, and ignite critical conversations about mental health in rural communities. Spread the word with your family and friends, and please stay on afterwards for a light supper and chat with the Corangamite CMA team and our partners,” said Ms McLaren.
