CATCHMENT CONVERSATIONS- HEALTHY WATERWAYS ON FARMS FORUM 2023

September 13, 2023

The Corangamite Catchment Management Authority (CCMA) proudly presents Catchment Conversations- Healthy Waterways on Farms Forum 2023. This two-part forum features a morning of presentations with keynote speaker Professor Ian Rutherfurd and an opportunity to visit a restoration site in the afternoon on Friday 6th, October 2023.

This year's theme, 'Healthy Waterways on Farms', aligns perfectly with our inspiring keynote speaker, Professor Ian Rutherfurd, whose background includes over twenty-five years of working with governments and communities on in-stream and catchment management.

He is positioned perfectly to educate forum attendees on the historical management of rivers in the Corangamite region, including how and why rivers change. In addition, forum attendees will also hear from Professor John Sherwood about nutrient runoff and stock management.

In the afternoon, forum attendees can visit a farm with a recently completed river restoration project and learn about the challenges and benefits of completing this work.

The forum is a free event with all ages welcome. It is split into two parts; the morning presentations commence at 8:30am until 1:45pm with morning tea and lunch included. The afternoon field tour is from 1:45pm until 5pm, with transportation provided.

The Healthy Waterways on Farms Forum promises an inspiring experience with plenty of practical knowledge that will help landholders transform their property.

Corangamite CMA's Kelly Snell, Senior Project Officer – Land and Catchment Health, said, "We are thrilled to offer this forum and provide an opportunity for people to hear from industry experts and those who have completed their own works to share insights on best practices for sustainable land management and waterway restoration".

"We hope to encourage environmental stewardship by giving people the tools and understanding to take proactive steps towards safeguarding our waterways now and for future generations, Ms Snell continued.
