FAREWELL AND THANKS TO CORANGAMITE CMA CHAIR, ALICE KNIGHT

September 30, 2021

Following ten years of careful stewardship and experienced counsel, Corangamite Catchment Management Authority (CCMA) Chair, and Board Director, Alice Knight is retiring.

Alice Knight has led the Corangamite CMA as Chair since 2011. Alice leaves the Corangamite CMA in great shape and with a strong and committed Board of Directors.

During her time as Chair and Board Director, she was the recipient of an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) for her services to the community, Landcare, environment, the Country Fire Authority (CFA) and the Anglican Church.

In 2016 she was awarded the Landcare Joan Kirner Award for her outstanding contribution to Landcare, the Woady Yaloak catchment and the communities she serves. Alice is only the second recipient to achieve this pre-eminent state award. This award is given to an individual who has championed the Landcare movement in Victoria.

Over the past ten years, Alice’s dedication to the organisation has been instrumental to Corangamite Catchment Management Authority’s success.

Corangamite CEO John Riddiford said, “Alice’s insightful and generous leadership of the Corangamite CMA for the past ten years has been invaluable. Her significant contribution to Board development, community engagement, sustainable agriculture and natural resource management has underpinned the Corangamite CMA’s vision to deliver healthy and productive lands and water cared for and enjoyed by thriving communities”.

“Alice leaves a lasting legacy, one of listening to and involving the community, and of acknowledging and celebrating the contribution and efforts of landowners in making lasting positive change to our natural landscape,” continued Mr Riddiford. “Alice has been instrumental in bringing communities along to support the Landcare ethos, including a long and successful program in the Woady Yaloak catchment, demonstrating best practice on the farm that she and her brother, Kevin, manage and their involvement in agroforestry nationally and internationally. Alice and Kevin have received the prestigious national award (only one of two Victorian recipients), the McKell Medal, for conservation farming and community involvement in natural resource management. Both Alice and Kevin have contributed enormously to the CMA and more generally to natural resource management in the region and beyond.” “On behalf of the Corangamite CMA Board, and Staff we wish Alice all the best in her future endeavours. We thank her for her commitment and the enormous contribution she has made to the Corangamite region,” said Mr Riddiford.
