Please park and leave your cars along the edge of the road, do not drive through the gate at the end of the road. The track through the gate is rough and not suitable for 2WDs.
What: Join Birdlife Australia and Corangamite CMA for a walk around Lake Martin to see the incredible bird life that use and rely on the area. Lake Martin is adjacent to Lake Corangamite, which is part of the Western District Lakes Ramsar site. This site is comprised of 9 incredible lakes and wetland habitat that supports migratory and resident shorebirds like the Red-necked Stint, Double-banded Plover and the Curlew Sandpiper plus waterbirds like the Australian Pelican and the Whiskered Tern.
Learn to identify a variety of waterbirds, migratory shorebirds and how you can protect them in your local area.
Catering: Lunch will be provided at the end of the walk.
Additional Information: Please be aware that this activity will be physical and will require walking on uneven ground. The walk will take approximately 2 to 3 hrs.
We recommend you wear sturdy closed toed shoes suitable for hiking or exercise.
Bring with you; binoculars, bird ID book/guide, hat, drinking water, snacks and sunscreen.
NOTE: If the weather becomes unfavourable or if Extreme or Catastrophic Fire Danger Ratings are declared, the event will be postponed and the participants will be notified as soon as possible.
