2022-2023 CORANGAMITE CMA CELEBRATES AUTHORITIES’ SUCCESS

November 20, 2023

The successful completion of the draft masterplan for the Kitjarra-dja- Bullarto Langi-ut project, the delivery of two cultural burns on Wadawurrung Country and the third release of nineteen captivity-bred Orange-bellied parrots at Lake Connewarre are among the highlights from the 2022-23 Corangamite CMA Annual Report which was released to the public earlier this week.

The Corangamite CMA's 2022-23 Annual Report also details how the catchment management authority is taking action on climate change. It is the first Natural Resource Management organisation in Australia commit to reaching net zero emissions for its operations by 2024.

Chair Cath Jenkins said the Corangamite CMA had maintained its commitment to working in partnership to achieve even better catchment outcomes, which was formalised through the maintenance of Memorandums of Understanding with all three of our Water Corporation partners and a partnership agreement being signed with the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation.

"Another highlight was relaunching the Corangamite Community Engagement Network. In July 2022, we relaunched the Community Engagement Network with the appointment of thirty-one community representatives. All committed to knowledge sharing and increasing community advocacy for greater natural resource management within the region", continued Mrs Jenkins.

Noteworthy statistics from the Annual Report include 597 community events, 19,412 participants, over $1.13M in grants distributed, 102 WaterWatch and EstuaryWatch citizen science community volunteers, 157ha of vegetation completed, and 3,034 ML of environmental water delivered.

"This year's Annual Report highlights how important the collaboration between Catchment Management Authorities and communities is. Community engagement and participation in natural resource management in our region is key to achieving our vision of "healthy and productive lands and waters cared for by thriving communities" (Mrs Jenkins).
