The Victorian Junior Landcare Grants

Overview

The 2022 Victorian Junior Landcare and Biodiversity Grants provide funding for projects that seek to involve and educate young people to value and care for Victoria’s biodiversity and our natural environment. These grants provide young Victorians with an opportunity to participate in biodiversity focused hands-on on-ground projects and/or environmental learning activities.

The first round of the Victorian Junior Landcare and Biodiversity Grants was in 2018, and since then the four rounds of these grants have funded 461 projects.

Past projects funded by the Victorian Junior Landcare and Biodiversity Grants include:

  • enhancing or restoring habitat using indigenous plants to attract birds and insects
  • a biodiversity-focused excursion to a wildlife sanctuary or national park
  • monitoring native animals in a local area and contributing the results to a citizen science program, such as the Atlas of Living Australia or Waterwatch
  • working with a Landcare group to plan and deliver a weed control project to protect the local biodiversity.

These projects support the delivery of Protecting Victoria’s Environment – Biodiversity 2037, Victoria’s 20-year plan to stop the decline of our native plants and animals and improve our natural environment.

Funding

Up to $450,000 is available for projects of up to $5,000 each (excluding GST).

The grants are funded through DELWP’s Victorian Landcare Program and administered by Landcare Australia as part of its national Junior Landcare Grants program.

Eligibility

The grants are open to Victorian childcare centres, kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, scouts, girl guides, youth groups, and Junior Landcare groups.
