The Corangamite CMA is thrilled to host Dr Fiona Warry to conduct a presentation on Estuaries with a particular focus on Corangamite CMA Volunteers.

Dr Warry works in the Monitoring and Research Team of DELWP’s Waterway Program Branch. Dr Warry has been involved in estuary monitoring and research for over 15 years. She has worked for various institutions including, Arthur Rylah Institute for Environmental Research and Monash University. She describes herself as an ecologist by training with a particular area of interest in the interplay between estuaries and their cathcments.

Dr Warry’s presentation will provide an overview of the stade-wide ‘Index of Estuary Condition’ (IEC) data and take a more focused look at results from estuaries within the Corangamite Catchment Management Authority region.

Victoria’s first state-wide Index of Estuary Condition (IEC) assessment was finalised in 2021. The IEC was tested, refined and applied over a decade to allow the first consistent and rigorous assessments of all estuaries across Victoria. Five critical aspects of estuaries were assessed for IEC: Hydrology, Physical Form, Water Quality, Flora and Fish. EstuaryWatch Citizen Scientists made an important contribution to the IEC assessment of water quality at twelve estuaries.

Join us for a fantastic morning as we discuss this data with expert Dr Fiona Warry.
