What: Did you know that the Western Treatment Plant is not only a very unique sewerage treatment facility but also part of the Port Phillip Bay (Western Shoreline) and Bellarine Peninsula Ramsar site.
Join Melbourne Water on a guided tour of the Western Treatment Plant to discover the sewerage process, heritage and the environmental importance of the internationally significant Ramsar wetlands.
The Western Treatment Plant ponds are important habitat for wildlife like the Growling Grass Frog, Orange-bellied Parrot and a variety of waterbirds. The Western Treatment Plant is a vital roosting site and food source for the migratory shorebird who travel all the way from Siberia and Alaska. Learn how staff at Melbourne Water manage the conservation ponds and manipulate water levels to best support the wildlife using the site. Make sure you bring your binoculars, you might see a Red-kneed Dotterel or a Brogla!

Catering: Lunch will be provided at the end of the tour.

Additional Information: For this tour you are REQUIRED to wear; long sleeved shirt, long pants and closed toed shoes. If you do not wear these items you will not be able to participate in the tour.
Please bring with you; binoculars, hat, drinking water and sunscreen.
