eDNA Platypus Survey - Upper Barwon River

April 13 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

Please join Upper Barwon Landcare Network and Corangamite CMA Citizen Science program in Birregurra on Saturday 13th April to participate in an eDNA survey for platypus, fish and frogs. This survey will contribute to the platypus eDNA dataset collected by Upper Barwon Landcare Network (UBLN) and provide new insight into the distribution of fish and frog species.

When: Saturday 13th April ’24 9am-11am

Where: Beside the Barwon River, Barwon St, Birregurra

What to bring: Weather appropriate clothes, sturdy shoes, mobile phone, camera, hat, snacks and water bottle.

What to expect: This is a sampling activity at sites across the Upper Barwon catchment. There will be an introduction to the eDNA citizen science activity where you will learn more about riverine animals like the platypus and you will learn the technique of eDNA collection through a demonstration. In groups of 2 or 3 people, you will drive to nearby sites between Forrest and Winchelsea to collect eDNA samples then return the equipment back to a collection point. When the results are in, Corangamite CMA and UBLN will report the survey findings back to you.

RSVP and further information please contact Deirdre Murphy mob 0418145818, deirdre.murphy@ccma.voc.gov.au
