This activity will be held on the edge of Lake Corangamite on private property. Access will be through a farm gate and parking in a cattle paddock. If you own a 4WD, we recommend you bring this as the paddock is quite rough and rocky, there will be a marked path to follow to the parking.
If you do not own a 4WD, parking will be beside the entry gate and you will be driven further in by CCMA and Greening Australia staff.
What:
The Corangamite Water Skink is a medium-sized lizard with beautiful black and golden markings. Listed as Endangered under the EPBC Act and is only found at approximately 30 small sites in Victoria, this lizard’s population is in decline as habitat is being degraded.
Join Greening Australia and Corangamite CMA out on Lake Corangamite to learn more about the species, what you can do to help them and to assist surveying the basalt boulders on the edge of the water to see how the population on this site is going.
Catering: Tea, Coffee, fruit and lunch will be provided.
Additional Information:
No surveying experience required.
Please be aware that this activity will be physical and will require walking over uneven, rocky ground to the survey site. You will be required to wear, sturdy closed toed shoes and long pants. We strongly recommend you wear gaiters or gumboots due to the risk of snakes.
Bring with you; binoculars, camera, hat, drinking water, snacks and sunscreen.
NOTE: If the weather becomes unfavourable or if Extreme or Catastrophic Fire Danger Ratings are declared, the event will be postponed and the participants will be notified as soon as possible.
