WE’RE LEADING THE RENEWAL OF THE REGIONAL CATCHMENT STRATEGY

January 21, 2021

The Regional Catchment Strategy (RCS) defines a long-term vision and outcomes for land, water and biodiversity management within the Corangamite Region.

The Catchment Management Authority is leading the renewal in collaboration with agencies, local government, landholders and the broader community. The strategy will be important for developing projects that protect and enhances both regional and local scale environmental assets.

The Corangamite RCS will have nine 'local areas' based on current priority landscapes. The nine local areas include, Geelong, Bellarine Surf Coast, Basalt Plains, Northern Uplands, Ballarat, Heytesbury, Western District Lakes, Barwon Plains, and Otway Coast.

The purpose of local area content in the RCS is to reflect the priorities and desired outcomes plus show how agencies and communities work together to deliver integrated catchment management at the local scale.

The CMA is inviting local community members to register their interest in participating in the local planning workshops. More information can be found here.

John Riddiford CEO of the Corangamite CMA states “At the heart of the RCS renewal is the need to encourage the community to participate in the protection, restoration and enhancement of natural resources across the Corangamite Region”.

“This strategy will be important for developing projects that protect and enhance both regional and community scale environmental assets such as our rivers and creeks, our biodiversity and supporting sustainable agriculture”.

“People who farm and manage land, live in towns, work, or volunteer all have a role to play in renewing the Corangamite Regional Catchment Strategy  for 2021-27” said Mr Riddiford.
