STUDENTS MAKE A SPLASH FOR NATIONAL WATER WEEK

October 18, 2024

Get ready to dive into the excitement of National Water Week from 21-27 October! Students at Wendouree Primary School have been honing their River Detectives skills by exploring the fascinating world of water bugs.

Armed with plenty of curiosity, students recently participated in water bug surveys, which offer valuable insights into how macroinvertebrates serve as biological indicators of water quality, enhancing the school’s overall monitoring efforts.

The surveys complement the students' monthly testing of air and water temperature, pH, reactive phosphorous, electrical conductivity and turbidity at Lake Wendouree monitoring sites, as well as at the school's frog pond.

River Detectives is an exciting education initiative of Victoria’s Catchment Management Authorities, inspiring teachers and students to understand, appreciate and care for their local waterway through engaging, cross-curricular, citizen-science activities.
