CENTRAL AND GIPPSLAND REGION SUSTAINABLE WATER STRATEGY IS NOW LIVE

September 7, 2022

We are pleased to announce that on September 4th Minister for Water Harriet Shing launched the Central and Gippsland Region Sustainable Water Strategy - outlining a pathway to secure the region’s water future over the next 50 years.

Sustainable Water Strategies (SWS) set the policy direction and outline actions for securing a region’s long-term water supplies to protect the jobs, farms, ecosystems, communities and the Traditional Owners that rely on them.

This is the first SWS with a documented implementation plan that has included opportunities for ongoing conversations with the community and key stakeholders throughout the implementation of actions.

Victoria is facing a future with a drying climate which means less water flowing into rivers, and less water captured in water storages and dams.

Investing in the health of our rivers and waterways is particularly
important to the economic, social, and environmental future of our cities, suburbs and towns.

This Strategy outlines the State’s priorities for water savings and investing in more manufactured water supplies to meet our water needs and free up river water to enable the return to the environment and to Traditional Owners.

Corangamite CMA would like to acknowledge the input from community members, local groups and authorities in our Region. We extend our thanks and gratitude for helping to shape the final Strategy.

The strategy can be found here: https://water.vic.gov.au/sws.
