On-Farm Water Efficiency

Our Catchments Our Communities – Victorian Government

A joint Corangamite CMA, industry, government and community stakeholder partnership will lead the Protecting the Environment via On-farm Water Efficiency Project, delivering a number of on-farm pilot activities testing the viability and effectiveness of modernised on-farm water capture technologies to meet future farming need, and achieve improved water efficiency.

Four agricultural enterprises have been identified with beef, pork, walnuts and a vineyard as recipients for these grants.

Sustainable Dairies

Our Catchments Our Communities – Victorian Government

The Gellibrand and Curdies river catchments form part of one of the largest dairy regions in Australia, providing critical water supply for townships and stock water, as well as habitat for significant fish species.

A partnership between the Corangamite CMA, Agriculture Victoria, WestVic Dairy, and Landcare will lead the Sustainable Dairy Management Project to engage dairy communities to support whole of farm nutrient management in the Gellibrand and Curdies river catchments.

The project aims to deliver on-ground improvements to more than 20 farms that support a reduction in nutrient runoff and improved farm productivity through a combination of on farm extension works and a regenerative farming program.

Corangamite Rural Women’s Network

The Corangamite Rural Women’s Network aims to bring rural women from a range of backgrounds together to strengthen networks to enhance community resilience.

Local women volunteer to be involved in the planning and delivery of activities to increase the knowledge, skills and confidence of rural women through workshops, forums, training and on farm field days. The informal network is facilitated by the Regional Agriculture Landcare Facilitator.

The network initiated the successful ‘Women on Farms’ program in partnership with Southern Farming Systems which is now being delivered across other neighbouring regions.

Regional Agriculture Landcare Facilitator

The Regional Agriculture Landcare Facilitator (RALF) is a key component of the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program, with one RALF allocated to each of Australia’s 56 NRM regions. The RALF for the Corangamite region primarily works with farmers, community and industry groups who have a focus on sustainable agriculture.
