Aboriginal people have been managing land and waters across the Corangamite CMA region for thousands of generations. Aboriginal people developed an innate relationship for their environment, which continues with each new generation today.
Aboriginal cultural heritage
Evidence of Aboriginal occupation is present throughout the landscape as cultural heritage places, items and family histories, knowledge passed on from one generation to the next.
Aboriginal cultural heritage is protected in Victoria under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006. The heritage act requires that all discoveries of Aboriginal cultural heritage, places or objects, be reported to Aboriginal Victoria.
