Regional Catchment Strategy Renewal

The Corangamite Regional Catchment Strategy is due for renewal as required under the Catchment and Land Protection Act.  The Victorian Catchment Management Council in conjunction with the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning and Catchment Management Authorities have developed guidelines (approved by the Minister) which all CMAs are using as the basis for renewal.  The Regional Catchment Strategy will provide the basis of Integrated Catchment Management across the Corangamite region and will contribute to state-wide outcomes.

Earlier this year, we asked you to help shape the Corangamite Regional Catchment Strategy (RCS) for 2021-27. Many of you attended our online RCS workshops, where you contributed your opinions. We took the feedback provided to us from these community workshops and developed the draft RCS. Your local knowledge, priorities and ideas have helped shape this draft.

The draft RCS was open for a month long public consultation via Engage Victoria. This consultation period is now closed. We thank all the community members and stakeholders who took the time to review the draft and provide feedback. The RCS is now being finalised. Corangamite Regional Catchment Strategy 2013–2019

The Corangamite Regional Catchment Strategy 2013–2019 provides a vision for the integrated management of natural resources in the Corangamite region. It is a blueprint for catchment health in the future and builds on the achievements and lessons from the past.

At the heart of the Regional Catchment Strategy (RCS) is the need to encourage the community to participate in the protection, restoration and enhancement of natural resources across the Corangamite landscape.

A motivated community, combined with sound science, increased knowledge and adequate resources, is essential for improving the health and productivity of the catchment.

More than two-thirds of the catchment is private land managed by rural landholders, and without their participation, investment and knowledge, we will not realise the vision in this strategy – a healthy Corangamite catchment valued by engaged communities.
