Sustainable Agriculture Facilitator

Supporting climate-smart sustainable agriculture in the Corangamite CMA region

The Sustainable Agriculture Facilitator (SAF) is a designated central contact point for farmers, landholders, industry, and community groups who supports climate-smart, sustainable agriculture practices in the region.

Karen O’Keefe is the Corangamite CMA region SAF.  She is part of a national network of Sustainable Agriculture Facilitators across Australia, supported by the Australian Government through funding from the Natural Heritage Trust under the Climate-Smart Agriculture Program.

The role of the SAF

Our SAF aims to:

  • Engage and inform farmers, landholders, community groups, and agriculture industries about climate-smart, sustainable agriculture practices – including best practice natural resource management, biodiversity and carbon markets, and practices that support emission reductions and build climate resilience on farm.
  • Facilitate partnerships and connections that will assist farmers, landholders, community groups and agriculture industries to work together.
  • Support the delivery of sustainable agriculture projects in the Corangamite region.

 

Communities of Practice meetings

The Corangamite SAF regularly hosts Communities of Practice (CoP) meetings to foster networks of people to share information about climate smart farming ideas, research, projects and collaboration opportunities in the region. These include:

  • Dung Beetles in southeast Australia CoP
  • Southwest Dairy NRM CoP
  • Regenerative Agriculture in Corangamite CoP
  • Corangamite Rural Women's Network CoP
  • Victorian Equine Landcare CoP
