Climate Smart Farming

The Corangamite CMA region faces significant challenges due to climate variability, frequent extreme weather conditions, and soil degradation. These issues necessitate sustainable land management practices to ensure long-term agricultural productivity and environmental health.

Tailored to cropping and livestock farmers in the high rainfall zones of the Corangamite CMA region, Southern Farming Systems (SFS), will be supported to deliver a series of climate-smart educations events, demonstrations and resources.

These will focus on soil health, building farmer capacity, promoting sustainable and climate resilient farming practices and protecting natural resources.

SFS is a farmer driven, non-profit organisation that assists farmers in high rainfall zones.

Diverse Farms Resilient Catchments

The Otway Agroforestry Network Education Program is made possible thanks to Corangamite CMA's Diverse Farms Resilient Catchments project, which is supported by the Australian Government through funding from the Natural Heritage Trust under the Climate-Smart Agriculture Program.

The Diverse Farms Resilient Catchments project is a series of tailored education programs running from 2024 to 2028 that support farmers to increase their biological diversity and resilience on farms, in communities and across the landscape.

Catering for a range of audiences including dairy, mixed farming, livestock, broadacre cropping and artisan producers, other DFRC programs include Sustainable Dairies workshops and engagement events, Southern Farming Systems climate smart farming events, on-farm demonstrations and Landcare innovation and exchange events.
