Learn about the Barwon River catchment
Try WaterWatch at Sparrovale Wetlands!
If you would like to learn about the waterway condition of the Barwon River, come to this water testing activity hosted by Corangamite CMA with the City of Greater Geelong.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Citizen scientists are invited to take part in water quality testing to evaluate the condition of these important wetlands. You will learn more about the salinity and waterbug communities at wetlands and the connection between Sparrovale and the Barwon River.
9:30am Meet at 1 Groves Rd, Armstrong Creek. There is an orange shed there and we can park onsite, off the road (see google maps location)
9:35am Acknowledgement of Country
9:40am Talking, walking and testing. From this location we can see the newly constructed stormwater wetland and can walk to the large natural wetland. Here we will test the saltiness of the water and collect and identify the aquatic fauna.
11:30am Finish.
Note: It will probably be a 1.5-2km walk in total (there and back) on flat ground. Wear wet weather gear, walking boots, and bring a water bottle and hat. All equipment will be provided but you may want to bring binoculars to view bird life.
