Enhancing Farm Dams - Field Day Colac

February 26 @ 9:30 am - 1:30 pm

Free

Corangamite Catchment Management Authority (CMA) is excited to bring experts from Australian National University’s Sustainable Farms initiative to the Colac region.

Join us on a recently enhanced dam in Colac as ecologists Amber Croft and Angelina Siegrist share their research on the benefits of enhancing farm dams for water quality, water security and biodiversity.

This informative, practical field day is for farmers and landholders interested in making their dams resilient in a changing climate.

The field day includes:

  • the foundations of why biodiversity on farms is important
  • key management practices of farm dam enhancement
  • in-depth discussion of research learnings: the benefits of farm dam enhancement for biodiversity, productivity, water security & climate change mitigation
  • tools and resources to support the adoption of new management practices by landholders
  • background information from Central Otway Landcare Network’s Andy Gray

Benefits for participants include:

  • knowledge of research on the multiple benefits of enhancing farm dams
  • understanding of science-based management actions to enhance dams and the most important first step
  • a taste of what’s to come in our upcoming ‘Testing the Waters’ project
  • an opportunity to network with Landcare, Corangamite CMA’s sustainable agriculture team, and other landholders over lunch at Colac’s Lake View Café after the dam visit
