Welcome upgrades to Barwon River infrastructure

October 15, 2018

Six river sites and platforms along the Geelong section of the Barwon River are getting a much needed upgrade and improved facility. A partnership with the Department of Environment Water Land and Planning, Victorian Fisheries Authority and the Corangamite Catchment Management Authority, has secured $480,000 to fund the construction of all-ability platforms for fishing, paddling, pet-swimming and small boat access to boost visitor experience and bring new people to the river.

Popular recreational activities associated with the river include rowing, water skiing, canoeing and fishing and a network of access trails that attract many cyclists, walkers and joggers. The provision of new platforms will increase access for a divers range of users on the Barwon River in Geelong and improve safety for river users and visitors . The Corangamite CMA will be working with the different user groups and the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners to implement the upgrades.
