Earlier this year the CCMA and Wathaurung Aboriginal Corporation hosted a community fishing day "Mooroobull Yaluk Kuwin River Day" with the Wadawurrung community.
The day was supported by FishCare who provided rods, bait and volunteers and while we may not have caught many fish (one blackfish one short finned eel) all those who attended had a great day on the river and expressed how important it is to have family gathering on Country and how important the Moorabool River is to people.
The day was enhanced by the timing of a Summer Fresh (Water for the Environment release), released for the spawning of the short finned eel, being timed to coincide with the River Day to ensure good flow and good fishing.
The day was part of the CCMA Aboriginal Water project, funded by DELWP through the Aboriginal Water program, part of the governments $222 million investment in catchment health.
