Barwon River through Geelong

The Barwon River in Geelong is one of our greatest natural assets.

Sections of the River still retain many of the natural habitat values in the stream side and channel zones of the river, supporting a diverse array of aquatic species.

However, inland waterways often have hidden dangers, such as strong currents and submerged objects. Conditions can change rapidly with flooding occurring quickly.

It is because of these risks we strongly discourage swimming in the Barwon River.
